These Asian Chicken Tacos are filled with bold flavors such as ginger, lime, and sesame oil. They’re not only very versatile and easy to make, they’re good for you!
The inspiration for these tacos is a cute taco rack that a friend recently gave me. I normally make Latin-inspired tacos (Mexican, Peruvian, and Cuban tacos are favorites), but decided to create something a little different this time.
Asian Chicken Tacos: The Ingredients
Let’s take a look at the delicious ingredients in these tacos!
Chicken
There’s a reason this dish is called Asian Chicken Tacos. It contains chicken! Alternatively, you could also make these tacos with shrimp or tofu. I used leftover grilled chicken, but shredded rotisserie chicken works well too. To make this with fresh chicken, cut up chicken breasts or tenders into bite-sized pieces and stir fry in a little oil, garlic, and ginger. I used organic chicken breast tenders for this recipe.
Coconut Aminos
Coconut aminos is a soy-free, wheat-free alternative to soy sauce that has far less sodium. In addition, it tastes wonderful. It comes from the sap of the coconut tree and is filled with healthy amino acids. As an added plus, the coconut taste is not overpowering. I like Coconut Secret Coconut Aminos. If you can’t find or don’t have coconut aminos on hand, you can replace it with traditional soy sauce. My favorite is San-J low-sodium organic tamari gluten-free soy sauce.
Ginger
Not only is ginger delicious, it’s full of wonderful health benefits. If you don’t have fresh ginger (it really is the best!), you can substitute 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger for the 2 tablespoons of fresh ginger. Pro tip: Peel your ginger with a spoon. It’s easier and reduces waste.
Asian Chicken Tacos Variations
Want to change things around a bit? Need to accommodate a special diet? No time to cook? Here are some ideas for you!
- Serve these Asian chicken tacos as an appetizer by substituting mini tortillas for the full-size ones.
- Make it gluten-free. Instead of flour tortillas, use a grain-free tortilla such as NUCO Organic Coconut Wraps.
- Make it vegan. Make this delicious dish vegan by substituting tofu for the chicken. I recommend extra firm tofu for these tacos. Marinate the tofu cubes before stir-frying for extra flavor.
- Replace the sauce ingredients with a ready-made dressing if you’re short on time. Annie’s Organic Shiitake Sesame Dressing is one of my favorites but you can use any Asian style stir-fry sauce or dressing.
- Replace the chopped vegetables with 1 1/2 cups prepared Asian salad mix or broccoli slaw mix.

Looks so delicious. I think I would also enjoy this with rice 🙂
Anything with coconut added is always lovely. I love that extra hint of sweetness!
Certainly an interesting recipe! I need to see if the coconut wraps you mentioned are available in my region! I make my own cocnut flatbread for things like burgers and pizzas, but I haven’t had much luck making wraps!
